Residents Giving Back

“Our residents recognize that they have a lot in their lives for which to be grateful, and this provides a way to show their gratitude,” said Emma Dvorak, life enrichment manager at The Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center at Monarch Landing senior living community in Naperville.

Several months ago, Dvorak said, life enrichment assistants Sia Kanjama and Aubrey Nolan suggested that the residents of assisted living memory support at The Springs have the opportunity to participate in monthly service projects as a way to ‘give back.’ Dvorak was proud to encourage the efforts.

In July, the residents made care baskets for Hesed House; in August, they wrote thank-you notes to the Naperville Fire Department; in September, they made a donation to A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter; in October, they created artwork for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and in November they held a canned food drive for a local pantry.

“Our residents are excited to participate, and when we announced the program at a family meeting, their loved ones were excited too,” said Dvorak. “It’s important to our life enrichment team to help our residents in assisted living memory support remain engaged in purposeful and rewarding activities.”
