Director of Nursing at The Springs at Monarch Landing Earns Prestigious Honor

Dulce Dangis of The Springs at Monarch Landing has been selected as the Director of Nursing of the Year by the Long-Term Care Nurses Association.  Dangis is a resident of Carol Stream, Illinois. The LTCNA, in association with the Illinois Health Care Association, supports more than 450 licensed long-term care centers and programs in Illinois. The award was presented to Dangis at Ovations: A Celebration of Long-Term Care Nurses on September 11th during the 75th Annual Convention and Expo.

Dangis has been the Director of Nursing at The Springs since  2018. Leadership of Monarch Landing enthusiastically nominated Dangis for the prestigious honor in recognition of her contributions to long-term care. “She has led her team in elevating the expectations for skilled nursing,” said Elizabeth Vanderwal, Administrator for The Springs.

Dangis has an amazing background. When she moved to the U.S. from the Philippines in 2006, she’d completed nursing school, attended law school, and was working as a barrister. She started in the U.S. as a floor nurse for a long-term care provider, moving through the ranks to p.m. supervisor, assistant director of nursing, and director of nursing. She remarked that at each stage, she had to ‘step in and step up.”

Accomplishments made during Dangis’s leadership at The Springs have included earning consistent five-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), supporting high staff morale, retaining the nursing leadership team, and decreasing the number of agency support required to maintain staffing numbers. “There’s a wonderful culture that Dulce has been a major force in creating at The Springs,” said Vanderwal. “As a result, the quality of our residents’ outcomes is great; there’s exceptional care, a low rate of rehospitalizations, and extremely high-quality measures. Our many positive online reviews reflect Dulce’s dedication and commitment.”

Vanderwal concluded, “The team at Monarch Landing and The Springs at Monarch Landing is proud of Dulce’s unwavering dedication, compassionate care and relentless hard work.”
