Monarch Landing Senior Living Community in Naperville Introduces Home Health Program

Monarch Landing has introduced a new initiative in its commitment to keeping residents within their homes while maintaining their independence.

The senior living community in Naperville has launched Monarch at Home, a home health resource “specifically for our independent living residents who need assistance and want to remain living within their apartment,” said Mychelle Benton. The Director of Monarch at Home explained that through the program, care companions assist residents with outings, personal care, domestic chores and other tasks with which they may need help.

Outside agencies, historically providing home health to Monarch Landing residents, are still permitted to offer services within the retirement community. “But Monarch at Home can do many things outside agencies don’t do. We can do quick visits. Agencies typically have a minimum of two, four, or even six hour intervals. We’ll provide services for 15 minutes or more,” said Kelli Cox, Associate Executive Director. “And because there is always a nurse available, Monarch at Home can also coordinate medications, and with a doctor’s order, provide injections, wound care and more.”

A significant benefit of  Monarch at Home is that the team is completely comprised of Monarch Landing staff. “The care companions undergo our careful background check and onboarding procedures. Because of our extensive screening and training, we do not have to rely on anyone else putting outside providers within our building. Our guidelines are rigorous,” said Mychelle.

Additionally, the leadership of Monarch at Home works to make good and consistent matches between care companions and residents. “When we meet with residents, we give them bios of the available care companions. They can look to see if there’s someone with similar interests and then try to accommodate them. We also have them meet before an assignment to ensure it’s a good fit. Then, we maintain their assignment as much as possible. Our residents really like that because they develop a relationship. The care companions like it too because they know what their day is going to be like.”

Kelli added that residents realize long-term cost savings through the use of Monarch at Home. “We can keep residents in independent living, and they can pay for support they need rather than moving to a higher level of care,” she said.

More importantly, “If one spouse needs assistance, she or he can remain with their husband or wife in independent living longer,” said Kimberly Giudice, Community Marketing Director.

“Monarch at Home allows residents to remain in their homes and live independently while we provide the services they need. We help them stay as independent as possible, using Monarch Landing staff and quality of care,” said Mychelle.
